Duffy was the cutest puppy we have ever seen.
When we 1st saw him in Ohio, Duffy was the largest and the
most ornery of the litter. I think that's why we picked him
out.
When he was old enough to be separated from his mother we
took him home. On the way home, whenever we stopped to let
him out heads turned just to get a glimse of Duffy. Strangers
would come up to talk to us. This has been typical of Duffy
all his life.
Duffy learned to obey commands well. He was able to do sit,
heel, come and stay. I was teaching him to jump obstacles
when about that time we found out that he had cataracts in
both eyes. We took him to several vets and ended up in Pittsburgh
at an eye specialist.
Even after surgery and weeks of treatment Duffy still ran
into things. Unfortunately he was never cautious and would
run into things all the time.
When we moved to our farm we though that would be the best
place for Duff because he could run around in a fenced yard.
But how ironic it turned out because on October 22, 1984
Duffy was killed after being run over by a truck in his own
driveway.
We had lots of good times with Duff and lots of upsetting
times. He'd knock down Cayla because he couldn't see. He'd
bark up a storm whenever he was around cars and he would
take nipes at my leg or hand whenever we would leave.
He turned out to be a good watch dog. He liked to go on
car rides and really appreciated the steak bones we would
give him.
Duffy, Old English Sheep Dog, 1980-1984. We loved him dearly...
and we will miss him.
